On November 11th, we lost one of the most caring and compassionate people on the planet, Gretchen Dewitt. We animalists are in mourning for the loss of this great woman, her tireless effort in the aid of all animals will live on.
Gretchen co-founded the SPCA Puerto Vallarta association and in 2009, she joined PEACE Mexico's board of directors, focusing her fundraising efforts primarily on "Aid to Animals." In June 2013, Gretchen and Amy Welch, former treasurer of PEACE USA, founded PEACE Animals, whose mission is to prevent animal suffering. Her effort made an impact by reducing animal overpopulation in Puerto Vallarta and Bahia de Banderas.
The latest sterilization campaign, alongside PEACE Animals, took place from October 28th to the 31st, resulting in a total of 116 sterilized dogs and cats.
Gretchen passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at her home in downtown Puerto Vallarta. She lived a full and happy life traveling around the world, laughing, helping people and animals in need, and loving all that this wonderful planet has to offer. Her legacy will continue to live on with her husband, Ned, her four children, ten grandchildren, her two dogs and six cats (all rescued).
All of us at PEACE Punta de Mita deeply regret the passing of Mrs. Gretchen DeWitt, and would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.
Rest in peace our dear Gretchen.
