Paolina Parra

Paolina Parra

ENGLISH TEACHER
About Paolina

Paolina Trinidad was born and raised in Mexico City. She studied English Literature at the UNAM and specialized in translation and theater. Seven years ago, she moved back to her family roots in Nayarit and settled down in the Banderas Bay area. She started teaching English while she was still in college, as well as helping students from other schools to translate books and articles for their majors, especially from schools of architecture, medicine and economics. Up to this day, she continues mixing these two trades happily: teaching and translation.

Such a background has given her an approach to teaching and learning languages through the arts and linguistics. She was able to experience this teaching herself Italian through movies, music, reading and speaking with any Italian around. Regardless of how weird it would sound.

She was able to apply this approach during her 2-year involvement with Entreamigos in San Pancho, Nayarit, where she coordinated the English Program. She took on the whole project on her own and from scratch. She combined the structure of an online English program and adapted it to the linguistic needs of the community to learn about restaurants, management, hotels, gardening, housekeeping and surfing, among others. The goal was to facilitate a dialogue to find communication whether it was through the correct word and pronunciation, a brave attempt, a sound, or even body language. The key is to keep trying!
