Y.C.I. (Youth Career Initiative) helps locals with career opportunity

Y.C.I. is a fabulous initiative that has been set up to help young people aged 17-24 with career opportunities. Set up by the Marriott, Westin, Hyatt, Sheraton, St.Regis and W Hotels, the program aims to give work experience to people who have had trouble finishing school and also finding a job.
The hotels approached PEACE to help promote the program to reach the community due to PEACE’s outstanding knowledge of its community members, suggesting possible candidates for the possible selection. Maria Rangel, PEACE Community Pride leader, oversaw the selection and also attended all meetings which were held at the Marriott hotel in Puerto Vallarta. The selected candidates receive valuable work experience training at the hotels, as well as financial and medical benefits. Running from October, 2017 til April, 2018, the youngsters will receive a certificate of recognition. They will also be eligible for a permanent position at the hotel with which they have been trained
YCI started its life in Bangkok as the Youth Career Development Program; a community initiative from Pan Pacific Hotels Group established to “give something back”. Lyndall DeMarco, Corporate Director of Education with Pan Pacific, and Dr. Kitiya Phornsadja, Child Protection Officer for UNICEF Thailand were the pioneers behind the program model, which saw eight girls and one boy from welfare schools in Northern Thailand transform their lives as a result of the program. It was so successful for both the students and the hotel that it was expanded to allow more young people and hotel companies to participate in Bangkok.
YCI arrived to Bahia de Banderas when Marriot International adopted the program and started to invite several resorts. W Hotel and St Regis decided to get PEACE involved due to their trust in us as they had seen our work within community.
