Good deeds do not stop growing

On September 30 at 7:00 a.m., something bigger than a school project is happening on Av. Pescadores in Corral del Risco. Cris Medina, a Prepanet student, is leading a full tree planting day, and she is inviting the whole community to be part of it.

It takes a community to grow one, and this September 30, ours is doing exactly that. Cris is coordinating the entire day through her own initiative, Eco Acción Badeba. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita is lending the materials and the hands, in the form of volunteers. CreativaPaisaje México is donating the trees themselves. And on the ground, it will be PEACE students planting side by side: 87 trees and plants in total, each one adopted by the student who plants it, to grow and care for long after the shovels go quiet.

This is not just about greener streets, though a shadier, cooler Corral del Risco is reason enough to celebrate. It is about what happens when an education built on opportunity turns into opportunity for everyone else. Cris did not wait to be asked. She saw a need in her own community and built the bridge herself.

One quick distinction is worth knowing: this is tree planting, not reforestation. Reforestation means replanting a forest that once existed and was lost. What Cris is leading brings trees into a space people already call home, for shade, beauty, and a better quality of life (Reyes Avilés & Gutiérrez Chaparro, 2010).
